Your role: The Business Architect is responsible for designing and developing the digital laboratory target architecture and supporting the Business Owner of various laboratory systems to align the application roadmap with the business strategy and deployment schedule. This role collaborates with the Business Owner to ensure applications are purpose-fit and meet the company's strategic initiatives. The Business Architect executes the technical roadmap to achieve company objectives while adhering to timelines. Acting as a bridge between traditional laboratory system owners and digital/IT solutions, the Business Architect utilizes advanced digital tools to enable connected laboratory operations and paperless workflows. This position is crucial for collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., OT, Business Owners, Laboratory operations, QA) to integrate IT/OT systems, optimize operations, support decision-making, and ensure seamless connectivity and scalability. The role is based in Molsheim, France; Darmstadt, Germany; or Glasgow, Scotland.
Key Responsibilities:

A. Technical Architecture Development

  • Design end-to-end digital laboratory target architectures and data structure to ensure data interoperability and achieve paperless laboratory operations.
  • Maintain the technical roadmap of the supported target applications.
  • Design interfaces or oversee existing data transfer mechanisms to connect the laboratory systems with existing endpoints such as ELN, LIMS, and Uptimize.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation in digital Laboratory.
  • Work with the project execution team of PM, PDM, Business, and others to ensure deployment of digital/IT solutions like LIMS, ELN, Testing Services, etc. meet performance, cost, and timeline requirements.
  • The Digital Laboratory Architect is key stakeholder in defining IT solutions / technology governance and optimization, review business process and functional requirements to optimize the solution architecture, recommend potential options, select the most optimal option, and develop a roadmap for the selected solution, ensure the proposed solutions fulfill functional requirements and comply with technology solution standards.

B. Process mapping and data flow design

  • Develop an integrated IT/OT process map spanning Level 0 to Level 4 of the ISA-95 model, considering existing processes and future trends in terms of the required business capabilities for a digital laboratory or other Lighthouse projects touching upon the support Business Capabilities utilized within the digital laboratory.
  • Assess existing processes, systems, and incorporate future trends to recommend and design systems supporting business capabilities for a digital laboratory.
  • Oversee and map out how production data flow from laboratory instrument to various endpoints which include but are not limited to LIMS, ELN, and Uptimize.

C. Program Management and Project Execution

  • Contribute to digital plant program and its related projects, by supporting Demand Planning, requirements gathering, participating and overseeing solution design, overseeing implementation schedule, and supporting the deployment.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including IT Application team, Project Execution, QA, OT, vendors, and contractors, to ensure project goals are met.
  • Present digital laboratory concepts, progress, and results to non - technical stakeholders, translating complex technical information into understandable terms.
  • Oversee and Project Manage projects as needed to ensure a timely project completion.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial), Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital Lab solutions design and implementation.
  • Proven/demonstrated experience with instrument integration to LIMS or ELN.
  • Deep understanding overall IT/OT technologies and processes, from level 0 to level 4.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques, data analytics, and machine learning/AI concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem - solving skills, with the ability to translate complex problems into digital solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills of communications, coordination, and facilitations to work closely with cross-functional teams like production, engineering, automation, OT and IT global teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and Validation regulations such as CFR Part 11 and Part 58.
